The MyTouch 4G Slide is somewhat identical with the MyTouch 3G. The plastic body it is made of is so smooth with a slight projection at the base. It has four exterior buttons physically built on its edges and a touch pad. The device comes in black and khaki colors. When compared to its predecessor, the MyTouch 4G Slide is just a bit thinner and taller. It has a dimension of 4.8' x 2.4' x 0.5' and weighs 6.5 ounces. And with this dimension, the 4G is a heavy device.
The phone's 2.7 inches WVGA Super LCD screen is perfectly suited because of its height and has a crispy display at 800 x 400 pixels. This is not the barometer in terms of screen display but the resolution is bright indeed. Atop the screen lies the front-facing VGA camera adjacent to the LED light that turns green when a new message is received. It acts as a message indicator. There are four buttons just below the screen namely the Menu, Home, Back and Genius buttons. This Genius button is responsible for voice-to-text functions and voice commands.
The camera button of MyTouch 4G Slide is located on the right side not veering away from the standard design seen with other devices on the market today. What is astonishing with the camera is that you can take photos by pressing the button even the phone is locked. The volume control and the Micro-USB charging port are found on the left side of the phone while the headphone jack of 3.5mm and the power button are located on top.
At the back of the phone, you can see the 8MP camera that has a dual LED flash. Once you open the back case, you will find microSD card slot which can expand up to 32GB of memory. This device comes with a pre-installed 8GB microSD card. The QWERTY keyboard of the 4G is one of the trademarks and has a pre-installed Swype virtual keyboard.
This device runs an Android 2.3 Gingerbread and contains a revised version of the Sense 3 interface to accommodate perfectly with the MyTouch aesthetics. There are six themes available in 4G and has set-up options for the Google Account, social networks and other e-mail accounts. Interface of the MyTouch 4G Slide is convenient, smooth and straightforward.
As mentioned, the front-facing VGA camera at 8MP is the center of attraction of the device. It has 1080p HD video of capture and playback. HTC boasts a much-improved lower light performance with its dual LED flash. Its lens has a wider aperture which means the lens is letting more light to enter. It also contains a backside-illuminated sensor (BSI) to improve the speed and performance of the camera at minimal light condition. This is the same trick being used by other topnotch devices like the camera of the iPhone 4.
There are countless features that are packed inside the MyTouch 4G Slide. Aside from having 4G speeds, it also has Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi calling mobile hot spot support, GPS and Bluetooth. You can also enjoy e-mail, multimedia messaging, text and other features exclusively given by an Android phone most particularly the access to a wide range of Google services. You will definitely like Netfix app that at present, has limited compatibility to a number of Android phones.
Qik video app is also included alongside other important applications like T-Mobile TV, Polaris Office, Double Twist sync, Zinio Reader, Zid Zone and Bejeweled 2. All of these apps can be accommodated by the phone even though it only has a preinstalled 8GB microSD card because it has an expandable 32GB memory.
Overall, call quality of the device is good to both ends of the line and volume is nice accompanied by clear audio. There's a little distortion though when signal is not good but because of its impressive speakerphone, conversation quality can be graded as B+. All of these features are carried by its Qualcomm's 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon of 600MHz processor and powered by a 1520mAh lithium ion battery.
With the overall features and performance of the MyTouch 4G Slide, it can be ranked as a flashy phone at the middle or midrange level. With a combination of 4G speeds and 1.2GHz dual-core processor, this smartphone has kept a modest video recording with a smooth interface and amazing camera functions. The keyboard of the phone is an area to improve but all in all, this phone is worthy to own.
